Castejón de las Merchanas is a Roman fort found along to Guadamez River in Badajoz, Spain. It is well-conserved, and researchers have provided extensive documentation on its structure, function, and chronology. An essay is presented that discusses this information, putting it in context of other local fortification. It considers design, construction techniques, and archaeological finds in order to understand the Romanization of the southeast of the peninsula.
