AN ANALYSIS ON GOROGHLU EPIC’S MYTHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS

The Epic of Koroghlu is a common work of Turkish people and has spread to a wide geography in Eurasia. The epic is divided into two major versions and hundreds of regional variants. A version of epic which is in the east from the Caspian Sea, middle Asia or Turkistan part has more mythological floors and its roots go back to ancient times. The epic is full of ehtraordinary birth of Turkmen Goroghlu, his name, his horse, his marriage to the fairy daughter Aghayunus, his magical weapons, Hizir, Erenler and so on mythological motifs and characters. In this paper, a short overview of the general structure of Turkmen Koroghlu (Goroghlu) will be given and the mythological characters and motifs of the epic will be analyzed.
