Application of GIS and GPS technologies in military highway transportation

The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a new technology of integration, processing and visualization of geographic data in a user-suitable way. Geographic data and information describe real phenomena at particular locations and in particular periods of time. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a system for positioning stationary and mowing objects in space and real time. The paper gives basic characteristics as well as the possibilities of GIS and GPS integration and application in military highway transportation. In most developed armies the GIS and GPS technologies are fundamental technologies of the C3I system.
