Research in various areas in Indonesia in the 1980s indicated that the distribution of type 2 diabetes prevalence was 6.1% obtained in Manado. A study in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, reported a steep rise in the prevalence of DM from 1.7% in 1982, 5.7% in 1993 to 12.8% in 2001.
