Zusammenfassung:Why was the publication by Tâhâ Husayn on pre-Islamic poetry so criticised by al-Azhar since the central thesis of the work (this poetry was almost entirely recreated in the Umayyad period) does not contain anything that would shock a pious Muslim ? This attitude was doubtlessly founded upon the fact that Tâhâ Husayn, who used critical analysis and who systematically put everything in doubt, always questioning general consensus, provoked the anger of the conservative clergy. This method appeared as a vector of foreign ideas and ways and was perceived as the expression of an arrogant attitude. In reality, such methods as those used by Tâhâ Husayn followed in the footsteps of Greek and Mediterranean tradition. In fact, Tâhâ Husayn, himself, totally depended on the Hellenic vision interpreted via French culture.
