Zusammenfassung: | Information for an analysis of the implications of digital social inequality for internet education was obtained from 50 structured & surf interviews with young people aged 11 to 23; a quantitative questionnaire completed by 360 persons aged 14-24; & a content analysis of 164 postings on a feedback forum. Consideration was given to how social preconditions influence differences in internet use; the impact of technical equipment & social sites of access; the relationship between real life & virtual space; & preconditions needed to open new educational spaces on the internet. It was found that both social differences & processes of appropriation have an impact on online use. Challenges for the development of informal internet educational arrangements posed by differences based on social inequalities are pointed out. Although the digital divide tends to diminish with technical access, differences in usage of the internet remain largely unchanged. Emphasis is placed on the need to create & enhance online services that overcome inequalities in access/usage while structurally providing a space for education. References. J. Lindroth |
