Alexander the Great had started Asia campaign with crossing the Hellespont. His first major battle has been near the Granicus river. Before the battle, Alexander visited Homeric heroes tumuli and Troia. Thereafter, Macedonian army has marched to Granicus via Arisbe, Perkote, Kolonai. The battle has been on the east side of Granicus river second half in May, 334 B C. And resulted in the victory of Macedonian Army. This victory has opened to Alexander Asian gates. His second encounter to Persians has been on the Issus, near the Syrian border
