Zusammenfassung:The present article proposes to analyze the advertising made by Italian immigrants to relatives who had stayed in the land of origin. Through letters, they sought to attract family members by publicizing the abundance of food that existed in the colonies of Southern Brazil, consolidating a belief among Italian peasants: the cucagna or "earthly paradise." Certain foods were already part of the peasant identity - grape, wine, polenta - but gained new meanings among immigrants and descendants, reinforcing the identity of the group.
