Zusammenfassung:Blessed Augustine is one of the greatest fathers of the Church. At the V Ecumenical Council he was named among the twelve most authoritative teachers of the Church. But Blessed Augustine was not only a great theologian but also a philosopher. Moreover, we see in him not just an interest in some aspects of philosophy, such as Origen or St. Clement of Alexandria. We can say that Blessed Augustine created the first holistic system of Christian philosophy. Blessed Augustine is one of the founders of the Western theological tradition, which presupposes the agreement of faith and reason in matters concerning our salvation. It should be noted that the views of Blessed Augustine on the relationship between faith and knowledge have changed over time: if in his early works can be found a kind of panegyric to science and reason, in later works he is more skeptical about the possibilities of human cognition. highlighting a significant area in which it is powerless and must give way to faith. The object of faith and knowledge, according to Blessed Augustine, is the soul and God. Self-knowledge leads to the first, and knowledge of one‘s origin leads to the second. All other knowledge, if it does not serve the cause of human salvation, is not necessary. In the modern scientific world, the theological works of Blessed Augustine are very popular. A large number of his works show that he was engaged in theology and interpretation of Scripture, anthropology and psychology, music and aesthetics, argued against almost all known heresies of his time, wrote instructive treatises on various topics, did not ignore any one side of the universe. Interest in the creative heritage of Blessed Augustine has not faded over the centuries, as evidenced by many translations of his works into other languages. Many works are devoted to the study and study of his personality, his teachings. In general, we can state the growing interest in the work of Blessed Augustine. Every year new scientific publications appear on the life and works of Blessed Augustine.
