Zusammenfassung: | Inverted papilloma is a rare tumour arising from the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. Although a benign lesion, it tends to be locally destructive, has a high recurrence rate and is associated with malignancy, especially squamous cell carcinoma. It usually affects both the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, and only uncommonly affects the sinus exclusively – most commonly at the maxillary and ethmoid sinus. Isolated inverted papilloma originating from the sphenoid sinus is even rarer. However, there is an increasing detection rate due to the expanding use of Computer Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. We report a case of isolated inverting papilloma arising from the sphenoid sinus presenting with diplopia, which was successfully surgically resected via the endoscopic transnasal sphenoidotomy technique with full recovery of his vision. |
