The OECD political leaders’ background

This research note aims to study the Chiefs of State and/or Government of 33 OECD countries for the period from 1990 to 2012. This way, we first introduce a new dataset, “Political Leaders in Contemporary Democracies” (PLCD), gathering information on different features of the aforementioned leaders such as gender, age, educational attainment, type of education, party membership, term in office, political background, and previous professional background. Secondly, we present the results of a descriptive analysis that allows us to elaborate a profile for the examined leaders.
