Community wireless network development in Ciudad Bolívar

The present paper illustrates the process of fully deploying a wireless network for the local community at Ciudad Bolívar (Bolivar wireless), an outer-city area with the highest poverty levels in Bogotá (Colombia). This paper shows implementation procedures and design stages for the nodes of the community wireless network. A mesh-based network topology and various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications are utilized. These applications are currently being used by the local community due to the service coverage now provided by the community wireless nodes. The performance of the nodes is evaluated and recommendations are provided. Conclusions are drawn in the final part of the paper.
