Zusammenfassung:The Study aims to examine the relationship between Catholicism in São Paulo and the military dictatorship through some articles published on the newspaper São Paulo, that were censored by the dictatorship. The route followed was the selection of banned texts referring to violation of human rights. Some aspects of the disputes and tensions between the religious establishment and the military dictatorship in Brazil and São Paulo, will be presented. Within this field of disputes, there are some of the vetoed articles of this Catholic weekly publication of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, which reported the reaction of the Church against social inequality and the arbitrariness of the militarized state. The violence of the dictatorship is revealed and challenged by those newspaper articles that had been vetted. Sectors of the Catholic institution in São Paulo acted from their convictions, which were already present in the documents of Vatican II (1962-1965); the Medellin Conference (1968) and the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil.
