Zusammenfassung: | The aim of this paper is the analysis of the play Gota D´Água by Chico Buarque and Paulo Pontes. It is a retelling of the Greek tragedy Medea by Euripides. The action takes place at the Vila do Meio-Dia, a slum in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, where the protagonists Joana and Jason live. It is there that the individual conflicts intercross with the owner of shacks and its residents and are connected with the political authorities. There will be examined the mechanisms by means of which Chico Buarque and Paulo Pontes proceed to adapt the euripidean text in order to grasp the cosmovision of the Brazilians’ composers play, centered on patriarchy and hopelessness. |
