Zusammenfassung: | Natural rubber can be used as an asphalt additive, either in the form of latex, cup lump, and solid rubber (crumb rubber, block skim rubber, and others). This study aimed to study the effect of adding crepe rubber and the antioxidant 1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethyl-quinoline (TMQ) on Marshall characteristics. Raw natural rubber in the form of cup lumps was ground using a creeper to obtain crepe rubber with dry rubber content >95%, then masticated using an open mill. Next, the crepe rubber was melted at 200 °C before being mixed with asphalt at 165°C. The levels of crepe rubber in the asphalt mixture varied, namely 8, 10, and 12% (w/w). During the mixing process, TMQ antioxidants were added with levels of 1%, 2%, 3% (w/w). The asphalt rubber samples were tested for Marshall characteristics according to ASTM D6927. The test results show the addition of crepe rubber increases the stability of the asphalt in holding the load. Optimum results were obtained by treating 10% crepe rubber, 2% TMQ, and 5.50% asphalt, which has Marshall stability 1,403.96 kg, VFA 75.90%, VIM 3.07%, VMA 15.34%, flow 3.370 MM, and MQ 416,605 kg/mm. |
