Internal limiting membrane peeling versus internal limiting membrane flap insertion for treating large idiopathic macular holes: A review of literature

•Literature review on internal limiting membrane (ILM) peel versus flap insertion for large (>400um) idiopathic macular hole (MH) showed baseline mean visual acuity (VA) of LogMAR 0.7–1.55.•Literature review on ILM peel versus flap insertion for large (>400um) idiopathic MH demonstrated post-operative mean VA improvement up to LogMAR 0.25—0.89.•There is no t-value for categorical variables comparison between the two groups using Fisher's exact test.
