Zusammenfassung:The lowest note of the melodic gesture in the form of the letter “V” that, among others, appears in three standard Gregorian formulas (in one of the final cadences of the deuterus introits, in the third section of some of the second-mode graduals, in the third section of some of the eighth-mode alleluia verses), has a special structural meaning. In seven early notated graduals it appears quite often written in a specific way, implying thus a special appropriate musical interpretation.
