Relaciones entre Turismo y Arqueología: el Turismo Arqueológico, una tipología turística propia

Archaeology is a science aiming to generate knowledge related to history and prehistory in order to serve society. For this reason, it has a key relationship to tourism industry contributing to achieve its objectives through income generation in order to fund preservation, investigation and dissemination of archaeological heritage. This article presents the relationships between both disciplines defining a specific type of tourism based on archaeological heritage visits. Furthermore, relations between both disciplines are explained from the archaeological tourism concept approach and its role as a tool for economic development.
