Zusammenfassung:[Display omitted] •The intake of dietary fiber influences the bioavailability and the absorption of essential nutrients.•The present study further denotes the notability of dietary fiber on muscle quality and function.•Dietary fiber induced gut modification and SCFA production impose beneficial health effects that may aid in the prevention of sarcopenia.•Dietary fiber may be the primary nutrient involved in the gut-muscle axis, prompting sarcopenia prevention. The study aims to understand the effects of dietary fiber on muscle quality parameters and sarcopenia. Study data were collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2000 and 2001 to 2002. We enrolled a total of 2492 eligible participants and conducted logistic regression and multivariate regression analysis to interpret the relationship between dietary fiber and sarcopenia. In the measure of association between dietary fiber intake and sarcopenia, the crude odds ratio (OR) was 0.972. After adjustment for age, sex, and race/ethnicity, the OR was 0.977. In the fully adjusted model, the OR was 0.968. In addition, increased dietary fiber intake had significant positive correlations with all three muscle quality parameters, including muscle strength, skeletal muscle index, and gait speed. Adequate intake of dietary fiber is advised for the sarcopenia prevalent geriatric population.
