Zusammenfassung:Understanding that this is only a small fraction of Latin American countries, although encompassing most of the population, their data collection and potential registry do provide insight into the existing fragmented care. Prioritizing education and patient advocacy are recognized as important strategies to maximize the impact of available therapies through early initiation and through discussion with government agencies to include more PH drugs in the formulary. Besides education and therapeutics, the workshop members highlight the importance of conducting clinical, basic, and epidemiological research on PH in Latin America since it is likely that there are unique determinants that could influence treatment response and survival. Despite all best intentions by health care providers and industry, however, the drug may never be approved and/or available for them or for other patients who may have potential benefit.
