Zusammenfassung:Oral history narratives enable us to shed new light on the professional and cultural paths of Jewish migrants from Morocco who settled in Montreal at the end of the 1950s. Coming mainly from the French-speaking middle class, they emphasize their bonds with French culture and understand their migration as the result of a process of separation from local society that had started before their migration. In Montreal, the interviewees’ professional paths are considered successful overall. At the same time, their organization as a separate group recognized by Jewish organizations was built upon a mythical “Sephardic” identity and has been accompanied by certain tensions.
