Zusammenfassung: | Following an urban planning project in the agglomeration of Agen, an archaeological diagnosis carried out by Inrap on the oppidum of the Nitiobroges at “L’Ermitage” provides additional information on its internal structuring and on the architecture of the defence. The trenches confirm that the defence is of the “massive bank” type. They show that it is preceded by a inner road-esplanade of about thirty meters wide which runs parallel to it at least 200 m until a northern access opening on the plateau of Foulayronnes. The habitat is concentrated on the top of the hill, connected to the entrance by a secondary road. The slope delivers patches of plot indicating agrarian zones inside the enclosure. Metal furniture, especially coins, as well as amphoras and common ceramics, indicate a period of occupation centered on the first century BC. |
