Selected Aspects of Diagnosis and Treatment of Surgical Patients with New Coronavirus Infection: a Clinical and Epidemiological Assay

High incidence of influenza and other acute respiratory diseases is an important medical and social problem. Coronavirus accounts for 4 to 20 % of ARVI cases. In late 2019, the People’s Republic of China experienced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection with the epicentre in Wuhan. Th e virus spread rapidly across all continents except Antarctica. On 11 March 2020, the spread was declared a pandemic.
Materials and methods.
The study reports an assay of 72 cases of treating the new coronavirus infection at the Municipal Clinical Hospital No. 8 for the period of 10.04–18.05.2020. Th e average age was 54.1 ± 16.0 years. In all patients, diagnosis was confirmed by PCR-identifi cation of the SARS coronavirus RNA in nasopharyngeal mucosa smears.
Results and discussion.
Asymptomatic infection was confirmed in 6.9 % of cases. In the most severe clinical cases, the level of pulmonary tissue lesion constituted 10–25 %. Medium-severe symptoms were prevailing (62.5 %) and age-dependent in degree. Chronic morbidity aggravates the course of the disease. Timely treatment of surgical pathologies signifi cantly improves prognosis. Th e new coronavirus infection has high mortality rates (27.8 %).
Conclusion.
Successful treatment of the new coronavirus infection precludes decompensation of concomitant diseases. Th e new coronavirus infection is hazardous in terms of both contagiosity and mortality rate. |
