Zusammenfassung: | Given the patient's country of origin and positive serological testing for cysticercosis via EITB assay upon admission, besides the characteristic radiological features, we favored NCC as a preliminary diagnosis. [...]the patient was scheduled for a craniotomy to excise the lesion or obtain a biopsy to lead the management algorithm forward. The cyst's membrane demonstrated a highly convoluted pattern under the microscope (Fig. 1, panels C & D), with extensive microvilli scattered over its external surface (Fig. 1, panel E), consistent with the diagnosis of the racemose form of NCC, which is a rare form of NCC and not typically seen at such a young age. [...]they are more challenging to diagnose and not easy to treat. Despite the high sensitivity demonstrated via the 3D-CISS imaging modality in detecting rNCC, it might not be available in many healthcare facilities, especially in endemic areas. [...]a more cost-effective modality is warranted. Additionally, an endoscope-assisted approach can be safely used in cases with intraventricular cysts, which has been shown to improve outcomes.Study funding The authors report no targeted funding.Patient's consent Written and verbal consents were appropriately obtained directly from the patient to publish this case and any related data.Ethics The ethics committee at Al-Azhar University hospitals officially approved all the performed procedures and the followed guidelines under the reference number of HSZ-21-02536.Contribution M.M. was responsible for the conception of the work, data collection, drafting the article, critical revisions, and obtaining approval of the final version of the manuscript. |
