In the chronic constriction injury (CCI) and the spared nerve injury models of neuropathic pain in rats, an increase in interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin 6 (IL-6), nerve growth factor (NGF), and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) was observed in most brain regions (Al-Amin et al., 2011). The overproduction of IL-1β and CCL2 was found in the hippocampus of CCI rats (Fiore and Austin, 2018).
