Zusammenfassung:Urodynamic study (UDS) is a widely used diagnostic tool to evaluate lower urinary tract and pelvic floor function and provides objective information about different parameters related to it. To determine the incidence of urinary tract infections (UTI) after UDS and identify the risk factors predisposing to it. A prospective study conducted over 7 months between September 2013 and March 2014 at Medway Maritime Hospital, Gillingham, Kent, UK. One hundred consecutive patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs), overactive bladder (OAB), and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) were investigated with UDS. All patients had urine dipstick testing before UDS and urine cultures 72 hours after the investigation. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 17.0. The χ2 test was used to determine statistical significance with p 100 mL (p=0.01), and UDS done for LUTSs (p=0.001) were associated with UTI after UDS. UDS is associated with significant morbidity due to UTI and prophylactic antibiotics may be considered in high risk patients.
