Zusammenfassung:Due to favorable climatic conditions, the area of Herzegovina is suitable for growing mulberry trees whose presence has been known since ancient times. In the past, silkworm was also bred in this climate to produce cocoons wrapped in silk threads.Organized planting of mulberry trees for the purpose of the development of silk growing was recorded in Herzegovina in the middle of the XIX century. With the arrival of the First World War, silk production stagnated and its revitalization occurred at the end of the 1920s. The emergence of artificial fibers and the consequences of World War II were devastating for silk production and in the following years this economic activity in Herzegovina ceased.
