Zusammenfassung: | This paper aims at analysing the celebration of the Portuguese language verified in the Brazilian issue number 479 of Vogue magazine, published in July 2018. The analysis adresses to the cover of the magazine as well to the text Portuguese in the vein, written by Nizan Guanaes and also published in the referred issue. Taking into account the conception of monolingual discourse, as designed by Zolin-Vesz and Santos (2017), it portrays the monolingual placement suggested by the cover and the text above mentioned in relation to the construction of an essentialized Portuguese language, a monolithic institution that contributes to the notion of homeland and has to be injected in the veins of Brazilian people as the inherent part of the axis national territory-language-identity-literature. Results suggest that the monolingual discourse conducts the celebration of the Portuguese language in the issue of Vogue magazine as well as contributes to harden the conception of (national) language. |
