Zusammenfassung:Objective: The objective of the study was to correlate the nursing diagnoses of the safety and protection domain of NANDA International with the adaptive problems noted in the Roy model for patients in intensive care units (ICU). Methods: A cross-sectional study carried out at the ICU of a university hospital in a capital city of northeastern Brazil. The sample consisted of 86 individuals. The data, collected between October 2013 and May 2014 through an interview and physical examination, were analyzed by means of descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Among the nursing diagnoses of the security and protection domain, 29 were found with variable frequencies. When related to the adaptive problems proposed by Roy, 12 adaptive problems were evidenced in the physiological adaptive mode, which includes the categories of senses, protection, oxygenation, activity, and rest and nutrition. Conclusions: A relationship was found between the nursing diagnoses of the safety and protection domain and the adaptive problems indicated in the Roy model for patients in intensive care.
