Zusammenfassung:The conquest of historic centrality refers to two processes: the first one is very contemporaneous and linked to the urban rehabilitation policies of the historic city in the past ten years; the other one, deeper and slower, can be observed only in the long-term and allows to see the situation and the role of centrality in a metropolis. We will analyze the second one, and try and perceive, from the very beginning and through the discourses, the shifting and paradoxical imaginary of Mexico’s historic city, at times “mother city”, at other times “marginalized” in the heart of the metropolis. To understand the new patrimonial amenities of Mexico’s historic center, we will go back to the major periods that have marked the history of the city, and that represent the nation’s glory.
