Zusammenfassung:The article examines the similarities and differences between the Russian folk singing tradition and church singing art. The author discusses the common principles of melodic organization of tunes based on typical melodic turns, the possibility of performing different verbal texts on the same tune (model melodies (automela) in the church tradition and polytext chants in the folk tradition), and the similarity of the principles of melismatic chanting of poetic texts in church hymns and folk long lyrical songs.
