KARAKTER BANGSA DAN AKTUALISASINYA DALAM KEHIDUPAN MASYARAKAT BALI

Each community has a character as the values that is inherent in their daily life. The character gives traits in the way of thinking, behavior, infl uenced by a variety of input received from the environment. Therefore, instead of an existing character by nature, but rather the process of life is refl ected in his behavior. Thus the character of a nation is a long process of Indonesian people of which the data traces can be tracked from the past.This paper attempts to lift the national character of the people of Bali, which focused on four villages, in the category of rural villages and coastal villages. Four villages were: Village of Kayubihi and Bugbug (as rural village) and Kampung Baru Village and Kusamba (as coastal village). This study raised the questions: How is the national character refl ected and actualized in the public life ? Further, what factors are affecting the formation of the nation characters in the life of society ? Methodologically, this study tried to do a more comprehensive approach in the following aspects: historical, values, and the environmental community. In terms of method, this study applied qualitative methods, by taking some research steps: interviews, readings, recording, note taking, FGD, and interpretative analysis.The results showed that the character of the nation in the four villages shows similarity that the general concepts applied in Bali, such as: tri hita karana, tri kaya parisuda, tri mandala, desa kala patra, rwa bhineda, Unity in Diversity, Pancasila. While in particular, the remote villages show old tradition properties as the village inheritance, such as: ulu apad, homogeneous properties, hulu teben, the role of village kebayan, while in the coastal village is refl ected by the spirit of multicultural behavior, heterogeneous, mutual respect, and so other. The actualization is shown on people’s lives such as: on mutual understanding, consultation in the village, and the synergy of traditional and offi cial village services, worked together in mutual cooperation, each gives place to the interests of others. All the activities are affected by historical factors, the values of religion, nationality, and the environment.
