Zusammenfassung:Introduction: acute appendicitis constitutes the most frequent emergency in General Surgery Service. When patients are early operated on better prognosis is obtained. Objective: to characterize clinically and epidemiologically the appendectomized patients at Abel Santamaria Cuadrado general teaching hospital. Method: a descriptive, longitudinal and retrospective study was carried out in patients treated between June and August 2017. A target group of 65 patients was included that coincided with the sample. Theoretical and empirical methods were applied. The variables studied were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The principles of medical ethics were met. Results:patients with ages between 19 and 31 years (16,9 %) predominated, 61,5 % were male and 86,2 % white skin; 30,8 % of the patients presented complete Murphy Sequence, while 66,2 % presented leukocytosis with left deviation and 49,2 % of the appendages were suppurating. Horsley maneuver was performed in 40 % of the cases and right infraumbilical paramedic incision was performed in 68 %. Metronidazole combined with Amikacin was the therapy most used (75,4 %), with an average hospital stay of 67,2 hours. Conclusions:the non-specificity of the clinical picture of acute appendicitis was confirmed, helping to find more relevant patterns of behavior in the study area and an approach to early diagnosis, resulting in timely treatment of this nosological entity.
