Zusammenfassung:	An investigation was undertaken with the aim of establishing standards for the documentation of nursing care. Nursing care records in the medical and surgical units of private and general hospitals in the PWV-area and the Cape Peninsula were audited. A considerable number of deficiencies were identified in the daily record keeping of nursing care.
