Zusammenfassung:Aim: to describe the profile of preterm newborns in the ophthalmology service in Cascavel, Paraná. Method: a quantitative, observational, cross-sectional study with a temporal cut from 2014 to June 2016, whose data collection was documentary, obtained from hospital records. Descriptive statistical analysis. Results: of the total sample (n = 183), the prevalence of gestational age ranged from 31 to 32 weeks (28.41%) and birth weight from 1705g-1950g (24.04%). Of these babies, 153 (83.60%) used oxygen therapy, a risk factor for Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). The highest prevalence of ROP was grade II (n = 15, 20.55%) and the lowest grade III (n = 5, 6.85%). Conclusion: the clinical profile of preterm infants revealed that the lower the gestational age and weight, the greater is the risk of ROP. It was also identified that all those who developed, did use oxygen
