Zusammenfassung:Introduction: chronic gingivitis affects a considerable part of the population with pandemic character in some countries, so it is essential to draw prevention strategies as it is causing tooth loss. Objective: to characterize the clinical epidemiological behavior of chronic gingivitis and associated risk factors in patients with dental prosthesis. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in patients from Hermanos Cruz Polyclinic, between 2015 and 2018. The target group was constituted by 180 patients with prostheses who attended the health service, and a sample of 68 was randomly selected, meeting the inclusion criteria. A database was created with the results obtained which were processed along with contingency tables, applying appropriate statistical tests (Chi-square). The principles of medical ethics were included and respected. Results: there was predominance of female patients (63,2 %), and the group from 25 to 34 years old (27,9 %). Chronic inflammatory gingivitis predominated (51,5 %), being female sex the most affected (68,7 %). Poor oral hygiene prevailed in females (75,8 %). A relationship was found between sex and oral hygiene (p = 0,03). It was found that 100 % of the affected patients presented dentobacterial plaque. Conclusions: the epidemiological behavior of chronic gingivitis was identified, specifying the predisposing risk factors for the onset of this pathology, in order to control and correct the management of this condition.
