Francisco Becerra : interpretaciones de la arquitectura española en América

The authors consider the relations between Spanish art and that of its colonies in the Americas, with a focus on Cáceres, Spain, in the 16th century. Both Spain and the New World were influenced by one anothers cultures and politics. A group of masons-architects left Spain for its colonies at the request of civil and religious institutions. Their importance, and especially that of Francisco Becerra, is examined. His work in the Americas is detailed, as are the time period and influences.
