Zusammenfassung:Over the past decade the study of teaching and learning French as a foreign language in the German-speaking context has largely been influenced by new strategies and developments in educational policy. The setting of educational standards and the empirical evaluation of their implementation as part of a more general strategy to monitor the output of the educational system, form a new framework within which foreign language research takes place. After a short introduction that sketches the outline of this article (chapter 1), the author takes a closer look at the conditions of foreign language research with regard to French as a foreign language (chapter 2). In looking at six topics which seem to be in the centre of this research the author proceeds to examine trends in the current studies (chapter 3). The article concludes with a compact list of blind spots in the research activities (chapter 4). (Verlag, adapt.).
