Del Conventillo Al Barrio: Habitar Para Crear La Ciudad. Isla Teja En Valdivia, Chile (1938-1960)

The present work explores the urban definition of a working class neighborhood of the city of Valdivia: the one of Isla Teja, this from the industrial development lived in the XX century, product of the policies of import substitution and the installation of the welfare state; during this period, Valdivia lived a process that produced economic, social and spatial changes that draw a singular territory and that ended with the devastating earthquake of 1960. Both the memory of the villagers, the press and the bibliography consulted allow us to enter into that historical time to understand the historicity of this neighborhood and how it came to be constituted by its current inhabitants.Keywords: social history, Chile, Valdivia, industrialization, inhabit. El presente trabajo indaga en la definición urbana de el barrio obrero de Isla Teja en la ciudad de Valdivia, a partir del desarrollo industrial vivido en el siglo XX, producto de las políticas de sustitución de importaciones y la instalación del Estado benefactor; durante este período, Valdivia vivió un proceso que produjo cambios económicos, sociales y espaciales que dibujan un territorio singular y que terminó con el devastador terremoto de 1960. Tanto la memoria de los pobladores, como la prensa y la bibliografía consultada nos posibilitan entrar en esa época histórica para comprender la historicidad de este barrio y cómo llegó a constituirse por parte de sus actuales habitantes.Palabras clave: Historia social, Chile, Valdivia, industrialización, habitar.
