Zusammenfassung: | I Introduction: Curricular integration is an innovative way of facilitating teaching and learning processes. The Medical School of Universidad Nacional Río Negro Sede Andina (UNRN) was created with this goal in mind. It proposes a curriculum which features integrated contents, subjects taught through innovative settings and experiences, and formative assessment. In this study, student learning process, and satisfaction with the different innovative settings and experiences, were assessed for the first subject of the study plan.
Objectives: To evaluate the teaching and learning processes, and analyze the degree of acceptance by the students of the different curricular spaces of first year of the medical career.
Material and method: An anonymous survey was administered to students from the first cohort of the Medicine program at UNRN. Students were asked about the different teaching and learning processes in the subject, the various curricular spaces, the role of instructors/tutors, and the methodological and evaluative aspects. The proportion of students who were satisfied or very satisfied with different aspects surveyed was analized, using a 95% confidence interval.
Results: The teaching/learning methods, settings and experiences, teacher/tutorial role, and assessment strategies used proved to be important or very important in student learning processes. Within the learning settings and methods, the least valued experiences were the theoretical activities, which for the most part resembled methodology of traditional lectures.
Discussion: In general, innovative settings and methods were better ranked by students who had previous higher education experience.
Conclusions: The results presented reinforce the importance of using innovative strategies and approaches to strengthen curricular design in higher education.
