Zusammenfassung: | Introduction: Obesity is recognized as a multifactorial disease of an epidemic nature and a worldwide health problem. The estimation of body fat in patients with different morbidities has been the subject of studies for decades. Quantitative measures such as the Body Fat Index (IAC) can help with the quantification of body fat. Objective: To analyze the prevalence of ACI by relating it to sociodemographic, clinical and lifestyle habits in climacteric women. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study, carried out with 874 women between 40 and 65 years old registered in ESFs in the urban area of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. A probabilistic and random sample was adopted. A validated instrument was used to analyze the variables and their associations were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: 42.6% of the analyzed women had a high IAC. The variables related to the index were smoking (PR=1.00 [95% CI 0.66-0.94]) and physical activity (PR=1.00 [95% CI 1.10-1.57]). Discussion: The high prevalence of CAI in climacteric women was similar to that found by other methods of assessing the body adiposity profile. Smoking and physical activity are considered protective factors for overweight. Conclusion: The IAC is shown to be a good tool for analyzing adiposity in climacteric women. We emphasize the need for more observational studies, with a representative sample of climacteric women to better reflect the bodily changes that accompany them during this period of life.
