Zusammenfassung: | Obesity is a risk factor and a disease whose prevalence is increasing worldwide. Objective: To describe the temporal trend of the prevalence of grade I, grade II and grade III obesity in adults in Brazil between 2006 and 2019 stratified by sex and age. Method: Cross-sectional study using data from the Surveillance of Risk and Protection Factors for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey (VIGITEL). Obesity grades I, II and III were classified using the Body Mass Index: 30.0-34.9 kg / m2, 35.0-39.9 kg / m2 and ≥40.0 kg / m2, respectively. Prevalence of obesity grades I, II and III was stratified by sex and age groups. To model the prevalence, the Prais-Winsten regression model was used. Between 2006 and 2019, the prevalence of obesity grades I, II and III increased, respectively in both sexes and age groups, with an increase of 8.8% to 14.7% in men, from 1.7% to 3 , 4% and from 0.9% to 1.3%; and in women from 8.5% to 14.5%, from 2.5% to 4.3% and from 1.3% to 2.2%. According to age, there was an increase in both sexes, with a tendency to decrease in the last groups. In 2019, 5.2 million, 1.3 million and 634.2 thousand people were classified as obese grades I, II and III, respectively. Conclusion: There is an increase in the prevalence of obesity grades I, II and III, according to sex and age, particularly obesity grade I.
