Instrucción Popular, misiones católicas y territorios escolares en Colombia. 1870-1907

The aim of the article is to analyze the process of schooling through the system of Catholic missions between 1870 and 1907 developed in Colombia to establish power relations between the church with the elite groups and the originary communities; from the social history the sources are the reports reported by the missionary companies, the governmental policies and the educational legislation. Itis concluded that the survival of the system is related to the concessions obtained among the intellectual elitesin front of the role of the Catholic missions in the reduction of the originary communities El objetivo del artículo es analizar el proceso de escolarización a través del sistema de misiones católicas entre 1870 y 1907 para establecer las relaciones de poder entre la iglesia con los grupos de la élite y las comunidades originarias; desde la historia social se abordan como fuentes los informes reportados por las compañías misioneras, las políticas gubernamentales y la legislación educativa. Se concluye que la pervivencia del sistema tiene relación con las concesiones logradas entres las élites intelectuales frente al papel de las misiones católicas en la reducción de las comunidades originarias.
