Zusammenfassung:The present article intends to make a comparative study between the speech of José Cardiel, SJ and Pedro Lozano, SJ on the expedition made to the Strait of Magellan (1745/1746), as a way of showing and reflecting in what way a direct discourse participated in the event and was a witness of the facts) undergoes a filtering when being redone by another person. Equally, we seek to analyze the issue of travel through writing as a form of personal knowledge and displacement in a strange geography. However, it will be this unknown geography, which causes the author to re-think such facts in the perspective of an absence of this previous strangeness. The journey and its description are important in this perspective because it can be analyzed as an art of memory and as a narrative resource of history, as a discursive genre that can undergo changes even if they are two journeys (that of self-knowledge that relates to the act of traveling to other places physically, the literary, which is the journey through reading and imagination).
