Zusammenfassung:The South Amazonia of Ecuador, keeps its animals under diverse grazing systems, one of them is the "sogueo" management, knowing technical information about cattle under this system is important. Information about 80 livestock herds was collected through visit "on-site", determining a size of the farm of 11±1.7 Ha, with 9 bovines, (7.2 UBA/herd), predominantly males (11%), 76.2% are milk herds, 48.7% handles registers, they make 2 daily grazing changes, the length of rope is 5.5±0.6 and 3.6±0.7 m (large and small animals). In sanitary, the 65% deworm internally, overdosing (30%) or sub-dosing (5% and 16.7% calves and adults, respectively); 100% of herds make control the ectoparasites, with overdosing (48%) and subdosing (2%). In feeding the 73% gives some type of supplementation, 89% administer salt irregularly and the 97% provide water daily. In reproductive 62% make natural mating, 13% AI and 25% both methods, there are 24% dystocic calvings and 9.2% abortions. The weight of birth, weaning and sale (25 months age) are of 30±5.6, 176±41 and 486±168 kg, respectively, with increments of 0.7 to 0.8 Kg/day (weaning) and 0.54 kg/day (post-weaning). The milk quantity to start and end of lactation (208±62 days) are 6.6±3.9 and 2.7±1.6 L/cow/day, respectively with dry period of 123±53 days, discard 20.3%, adult mortality 9.5% (main cause: stacking), weaning 93.4% and calf mortality 6.6%. Fertility rate, raw and standardized birth rates are of 71, 75 and 64%, respectively, age first calving 29±7 months, interval between parturitions 430±100 and calving-conception interval 150±68 days. In conclusion, each day this system loses interest and applicability, because required amount dedication and labor, nonetheless productive and reproductive performance are acceptable, being able to improve with simple actions such as the use of records, AI, management of grasslands and selection of biotypes suitable for this environment.
