The Palau Centelles of Barcelona in the framework of the architectural and urban patronage of Lluís de Centelles at the beginning of the 16th century. Barcelona’s Palau Centelles can be considered the “swan song” of stately domestic architecture in the Gothic tradition in Catalonia and, in particular, of its most distinctive and geographically widespread typology. Built in the second decade of the 16th century, it only exhibits the language of the Renaissance in a few decorative and heraldic elements. Although the building has undergone numerous and sometimes drastic reforms, still retains its original character, especially on the facades and in the main courtyard. Its builder, Lluís de Centelles i de Clariana (c. 1472/77-1537), acted in his own behalf, but also thinking about your child’s status, Guillem Ramon de Centelles-Carròs, who in 1511 had inherited the important county of Quirra in Sardinia. Undoubtedly, this factor was equally decisive for Don Lluís to undertake the programme of architectural and urban development actions in the village of Santa Coloma de Centelles, capital of his barony, without parallel known in the Catalan context.
