Principios de la psicología en el ámbito odontológico: la Psicoodontología como una propuesta de subdisciplina aplicada

At present, it is important to establish a theoretical-methodological link between psychology and dentistry, expanding the knowledge of the dentist with new elements for their training in the social and humanistic field, combining the dental work with the perspective of the development of individuals, introducing thus the term of "Psycho-odontology"; which is proposed as a subdiscipline oriented to the study and application of the theoretical-practical foundations of clinical psychology and health to the dental field, involving aspects such as: prevention, diagnosis, intervention on cognitive processes emotional, behavioral patterns and the family-social support network, which are subordinated to the integral health of the dental patient. In this way, within its objectives, it is important to create an interdisciplinary link that promotes an adequate dentistpatient relationship, providing the professional with the psychological tools necessary to face the obstacles of a work nature, thus improving the organizational climate of the dental clinic. Therefore, the starting point is given to initiate debates, approaches and academic perspectives on the Psycho-odontology, as a proposal of subdiscipline; deepening in the theoretical-applied bases to conform a structure of knowledge with greater solidity as far as scientific rigor Actualmente, resulta importante establecer una vinculación teórico-metodológica, entre la psicología y la odontología, ampliando los conocimientos del odontólogo con nuevos elementos para su formación en el campo social y humanístico, conjugando el quehacer odontológico con la perspectiva del desarrollo de los individuos, introduciendo así el término de “Psicoodontología”; la cual, se propone como una subdisciplina orientada al estudio y la aplicación de los fundamentos teórico-prácticos de la psicología clínica y de la salud al ámbito odontológico, involucrando aspectos como: la prevención, el diagnóstico, la intervención sobre los procesos cognitivo-emocionales, pautas de comportamiento y la red de apoyo familiar-social, que se encuentran subordinados a la salud integral del paciente odontológico. De esta forma, dentro de sus objetivos se destaca crear un vínculo interdisciplinario que promueva una adecuada relación odontólogo-paciente, brindándole al profesional las herramientas psicológicas necesarias para enfrentar los obstáculos de índole laboral, mejorando así el clima organizacional de la clínica odontológica.
