Inteligencia sexual en hombres y mujeres ecuatorianos en relación conyugal
Sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction are frequent reasons for medical and psychological consultation (Sánchez, Carreño, Martínez y Gómez, 2005; Conrad y Milburn, 2002) and they frequently have a psychological origin (Heimann, 2002; Ugarte, Flores, Gatell, Rubio y Sotomayor, 1999). Zusammenfassung: | Sexual dysfunction and sexual dissatisfaction are frequent reasons for medical and psychological consultation
(Sánchez, Carreño, Martínez y Gómez, 2005; Conrad y Milburn, 2002) and they frequently have a
psychological origin (Heimann, 2002; Ugarte, Flores, Gatell, Rubio y Sotomayor, 1999). One of the
psychological variables is the level of Sexual Intelligence (SI) of the patient, defined as the ability to recognize,
accept and communicate what satisfies our sexual self and that of our partner (Conrad y Milburn, 2002). The
present investigation is based on a sample 312 Ecuadorian adults in a conjugal relationship – all are students
or acquaintances of students of the School of Psychological Sciences of Universidad Central del Ecuador. The
objective of the study was to use Conrad and Milburn´s Sexual Intelligence Test (2002) and a
sociodemographic survey to determine the level of SI of the sample and correlate it with various
sociodemographic variables like age, sex, educational level and length of conjugal relationship. The
investigation found no relationship between the variables studied with the exception of a categorical jump in
SI for individuals that finish secondary school (from an inferior to an average level of sexual intelligence).
Nevertheless, there were significant differences in sexual intelligence scores for specific questions depending
on the sex and educational level of the respondent. The average SI score was relatively low (72.96 out of 100),
suggesting a need for psychosocial intervention to better the SI of the Ecuadorian population, thus promoting
a healthier sexuality and preventing psychogenic sexual dysfunction
