A más cacique, menos ayuntamiento. La articulación del poder local en Palencia entre 1875 y 1923

The political power during the restoration of the Spanish Monarchy (in 1873) is multifaceted, and was built from interrelationships within the social setting. Power is a relationship of balance between the State and the citizens, where chieftains and city councils act as mediators. The city of Palencia is a good example of the mediation character of the city council and chieftains, thus showing the differences that the prominence of one or the other involve. El poder político, durante la Restauración es pluriforme, construyéndose a partir de interrrrelaciones con el entorno y la sociedad. El poder es una relación de equilibrio entre el Estado y los ciudadanos, en el que caciques y Ayuntamientos actúan de intermediarios. La ciudad de Palencia ejemplifica bien ese carácter de mediación del Ayuntamiento y del cacique, permitiendo mostrar las direrencias que suponen el protagonismo de uno u otro.
