Zusammenfassung:Introduction: The purpose of this study is relate presence of pain in the lumbar spine with the sex and age strata of elderly practitioners of physical activities. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 67 elderly (50 female and 17 male) physically active. The instruments for data collection were a questionnaire for the identification and other for assessment of pain complaints in the lumbar spine in the elderly. The data were processed by descriptive statistics, correlation of Spearmann and chi-square test with significance level of 5%. Results: No relationship was found between gender and pain in the lumbar spine (p=0,148), although a higher tendency for complaints of pain in women. But, for the ages, it was found that elder youth are most affected by pain in the lumbar spine than the older (p = 0.016), despite a weak correlation. Discussion: In the present study, the pain in the lumbar spine was connected only with the group of more elder youth. So, in spite of the benefits of an active way of life, the active elderly population also presents complaints of lumbar pain that need to be investigated and orientated in efficient and efficient way.
